Digestive, fibrinolytic, proteolytic and anti-inflammatory enzyme from pineapple Bromelain is part of a group of enzymes found in pineapple. Bromelain is part of the family of proteolytic enzymes which includes trypsin and papain. These enzymes have the property of curdling milk and, when taken at the same time as a meal, of digesting proteins. Bromelain derives its name from “bromeliads”, the botanical family to which the pineapple belongs. It can be extracted from the juice of fresh pineapple or, in the case of bromelain, as a supplement, from the stem of the plant. It is used as a food additive to tenderize meat or as a texture agent.
As a dietary supplement, it is available either alone or in combination with other food additives enzymes or digestive plants. Unlike other enzymes that are broken down in the digestive system, bromelain is partially absorbed by the body and passes into the bloodstream. It thus exerts a systemic activity: it inhibits the production of prostaglandins that cause inflammation, makes the blood thinner and has a beneficial effect on the immune system. The mechanisms by which it deploys its therapeutic action are not yet fully elucidated.
Originally from South America, the pineapple was already used externally by the natives of the Caribbean to accelerate the healing of wounds; a property which was then attributed to the action of the enzyme of this fruit. The Mexicans used pineapple to treat bronchitis, the Venezuelans to relieve throat irritation. In some Brazilian tribes, it was used as a decongestant. Even today, in traditional medicine, in Hawaii, Japan and Taiwan, the latex (sap) from pineapple stems is used to clean wounds and burns and accelerate their healing, as well as to aid digestion and to treat certain cancers. In the 19th century, Europeans spread pineapple cultivation throughout the tropics. At that time, the fruit appeared in Hawaii, where the Pineapple Research Institute is located today.
Although the chemical composition of bromelain has been known since 1876, its therapeutic properties did not arouse the interest of scientists until 1957. It was in that year that Ralph Heinicke, then employed by the Pineapple Research Institute, discovered that the stems of pineapple plants, until then considered as mere production residues, were rich in this enzyme. Europeans became interested in bromelain as early as the 1960s. Today, it is used on this continent to accelerate healing after surgery or sports injuries, as well as to treat phlebitis and sinusitis. For more than 30 years, bromelain and other enzymes with the same properties have been used by the food industry to tenderize meat. Fresh pineapple is the main source of bromelain. Canned pineapple does not contain bromelain because the processing process used destroys this heat-sensitive enzyme. Commercially available pineapple juice may not contain bromelain because it is also heated to help preserve the juice. It is then necessary to take suitable fruit or supplements in order to take full advantage of the benefits of this enzyme.
DESCRIPTION: NG4L Bromelain is a formula containing as a single ingredient the proteolytic enzyme extracted from the stem of the pineapple. It is a product derived from plants of 100% natural culture, without the use of chemical fertilizers and according to traditional methods of soil conservation. The pineapple plants have been selected in a fresh state and the extraction carried out within 24 hours away from all sources of heat. Thus, the process of strict and biological elaboration of our product NG4L Bromelaine guarantees the complete contribution of 500 mg of bromelain of 100% natural origin for each capsule, and the real benefit of all the recognized therapeutic benefits of this enzyme.

Mode of action: Bromelain has an anti-dematous and fibrinolytic action by reducing the level of blood fibrinogen and bradykinin, but it also reduces the levels of prostaglandins E2 and thromboxane A2, which gives it its analgesic and anti-inflammatory action.
Benefits of NG4L Bromelain
Digestive disorders: Some digestive disorders, such as bloating, flatulence and gas can be due to poor digestion of proteins, often the consequence of a lower secretion of pepsin or trypsin. Bromelain has the particularity of splitting proteins into smaller molecules: amino acids. Thus taken during the meal, it will help the digestion of protein-rich foods and thus avoid the inconveniences that can cause poor digestion of these. In this specific case, it is advisable to take the tablets during meals. Contrary to other digestive enzymes, bromelain will not be confined to the digestive system, it will pass into the general circulation and act on other targets. Moreover, for all other indications, it is recommended to take bromelain supplements outside of meals for better efficacy.
Congestion of the respiratory tract and sinusitis: a trial, carried out on subjects with bronchitis and various pulmonary disorders, showed that taking bromelain made it possible to reduce the viscosity of the mucus and thus facilitate its elimination. As soon as the first signs of coldness appear, take 1 to 2 tablets a day outside of meals.
Inflammations: Taken as a preventive measure, bromelain will relieve postoperative creams, reducing swelling, pain and the duration of inflammation. Indeed, this substance would inhibit the production of prostaglandins, pro-inflammatory substances, and decrease bradykinin, a substance that stimulates pain. In animal studies, bromelain was the most potent of nine substances studied, on a par with the drug Prednisone.
Cardiovascular diseases: Bromelain has direct antiplatelet and fibrinolytic activity on blood clots. This helps to improve blood viscosity, reduce recurrence of angina pectoris, prevent thrombosis, help reduce atheromatous plaque and in combination with potassium and magnesium, reduce the incidence of cardiovascular accidents (infarction). Thus, bromelain prevents and minimizes the severity of angina pectoris and ischemic attacks.
Properties with regard to the immune system. Bromelain acts on the immune system and proves to be of great help in case of autoimmune diseases and viral infections. Indeed, this substance will directly act on the production of cytokines, a key element of the immune system. In addition, it will increase the effects of certain antibiotics. If you are taking tetracycline or amoxicillin, do not hesitate to take 2 or 3 tablets per day of bromelain to potentiate its effects.
Cancer: Bromelain has been studied several times, in different types of cancers, alone or in combination with other drugs as an adjuvant treatment, for its anti-tumor and anti-metastatic activity with interesting results that deserve to be further investigated.
Healing and recovery support: Diluted at 35% in an oily base, such as sweet almond oil for example, Bromelain is effective in improving healing in the treatment of burns, frostbite or skin wounds. It is used in the past by the Indians when they applied compresses of pineapple stem pulp to their wounds. Bromelain is commonly used by athletes, either as a preventive measure before training or competition, or to speed up recovery and reduce the intensity of trauma suffered during sports activity.
Surgical interventions and traumas:
Several studies have confirmed that bromelain significantly reduces the duration of post-surgical inflammation, pain and swelling (often by two-thirds). Preventive use, (before the operation), is effective and advisable, provided that it is stopped a few weeks before the operation because of the anticoagulant effects. As already mentioned, bromelain reduces the intensity of sports traumas and accelerates recovery (Masson et al, 1995). The first study of this type was conducted on a group of 74 boxers who suffered bruises on the face and haematomas on the eye sockets, lips, chest and arms. After 4 days of taking bromelain, all the bruises had disappeared in 58 boxers! Many athletes use it as a preventive measure before training and competition.
INDICATIONS: Internal channel. To reduce inflammation caused by surgery or trauma, to relieve osteoarthritis, to treat rhino-sinusitis, to facilitate digestion, to treat post-operative and post-traumatic swelling, especially in the sinuses.
External channel. Debriding the pressure sore caused by a burn, accelerating the healing of wounds.
DOSAGE: The usual recommended adult dose is two (2) to four (4) capsules per day, divided into two (2) or three (3) doses, taken without meals, except in cases where NG4L Bromelain is taken to improve digestion. In this precise case, the product must be taken in the middle of the meal.
