One of the most treasured of all the trees, and its abundant fruits, was named Noni (Morinda citrifolia). What is Morinda Citrifolia?

Originally native to the Pacific islands of Tahiti (French Polynesia), the herb Morinda citrifolia (better known as Noni) is a distinctive-smelling tropical plant that now grows wild in other parts of the region, including Hawaii, New Zealand, and Australia. This amazing botanical, also known as Indian mulberry is an evergreen shrub or small tree, which can grow to heights of fifteen to twenty feet. The Science Behind Noni

XERONINE THEORY

Past theory and research states that noni helps in normalization of abnormally functioning cells by delivering to the body the essential biochemical compound proxeronine, which cells then assemble into an alkaloid, xeronine. Xeronine exhibits positive effects on cells, which results in most people feeling better. It incorporates itself into the structure of certain specific proteins; this change in the protein’s structure allows it to concentrate the tremendous amount of energy contained in water to do various types of mechanical, chemical and electrical work in each cell. The most informed professional on the subject of noni in recent years is Dr. Ralph Heinicke; a biochemist, who has researched the active compounds of the noni fruit for a number of years. He discovered that the noni fruit contains an alkaloid precursor to a very vital compound called xeronine. Without xeronine, life would cease. In Dr. Heinicke’s view, noni fruit provides a safe and effective way to increase xeronine levels, which exert a crucial influence on cell health and protection.

 His research suggests that the juice from the M. citrifolia fruit contains what could technically be considered a precursor of xetonine-proxeronine in the intestinal tract after it comes in contact with specific enzyme, which is also contained in the juice. Dr. Ralph Heinicke – Xeronine and Cell Regeneration

As a researcher in Hawaii, Dr. Ralph Heinicke became aware of the marvelous benefits of the Noni fruit and set out to find the pharmacologically active ingredient of the Noni. Dr. Heinicke had spent over 45 years studying the effects of an alkaloid he discovered and named xeronine. Xeronine is a relatively small alkaloid, which is physiologically very active and important for the proper functioning of all cells in the body. In his research, Dr. Heinicke discovered that the Noni juice contains appreciable amounts of the precursor of xeronine that he named “pro-xeronine.” Pro-xeronine releases pure xeronine in the intestines when it comes in contact with a particular enzyme also found in the Noni Juice.

Dr. Heinicke’s theory is that, when released, xeronine actually works at the molecular level to repair damaged cells. Dr. Heinicke states that the primary function of xeronine is to regulate the rigidity and shape of specific proteins. Since these proteins have different functions within the cells, this explains how the administration of Noni Juice causes an unbelievably wide range of physiological responses.

When Ralph M. Heinicke received his doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Minnesota, he wanted to escape from those cold Minnesota winters and so he took a job with Dole Pineapple Company in Hawaii. His first assignment was to develop a method to extract the enzyme that caused pineapple to prevent gelatin deserts from setting up. He found it was an enzyme called bromelain and in due time he and his co-workers found a way to extract it. Soon the Dole Company found that every day they had over a thousand pounds of this crude bromelain enzyme extract left over as a waste product. At the time it had no commercial value, and so the company president asked Dr. Heinicke to see if he could find some use for this material. Eventually he found it was a proteolytic enzyme that had some medical applications. He worked with Smith-Kline and the Rohr pharmaceutical companies to expand its medical use.

In order to get FDA approval for this enzyme he had to refine the crude bromelain extract down to an extremely pure protease enzyme. Much to his and the drug companies amazement, the more pure the enzyme became, the less beneficial it was in many of its applications. Eventually, in its purest state, it had only 5% of its original potency for many of its uses. Dr. Heinicke was then asked to find what it was they were removing that had given the crude bromelain extract all of its power. Meanwhile the giant Japanese drug company Toshiba had also launched a 3-year, 3 million-dollar program to find the same answer. At the end of that time they had used up all their money and not found the answer. Not one to give up easily, Dr. Heinicke continued his research and eventually found to his great surprise that the active ingredient was not a protein, carbohydrate or fat, but a substance known as an alkaloid.

Alkaloids are one of the most important classes of phytochemicals known, and are a major source from which many modern medicines are drawn from Nature. By isolating this alkaloid into a pure state, he was able to identify its exact chemical structure. Because it could be reduced to a dry crystalline structure he decided to use the Latin prefix “Xero” meaning “dry” as the first part of its name. Traditional healers use specific parts of the noni plant to treat different medical conditions. The plant’s leaves, for instance, are wrapped around arthritic joints, applied to the forehead to ease a headache, or brewed into tea to sip as a tonic. NONI AND CANCER

What is cancer?

Cancer develops when cells in a part of the body begin to grow out of control. Although there are many kinds of cancer, they all start because of out-of-control growth of abnormal cells.

Normal body cells grow, divide, and die in an orderly fashion. During the early years of a person’s life, normal cells divide more rapidly until the person becomes an adult. After that, cells in most parts of the body divide only to replace worn-out or dying cells and to repair injuries.

Because cancer cells continue to grow and divide, they are different from normal cells. Instead of dying, they outlive normal cells and continue to form new abnormal cells.

Cancer cells develop because of damage to DNA. This substance is in every cell and directs all its activities. Most of the time when DNA becomes damaged the body is able to repair it. In cancer cells, the damaged DNA is not repaired. People can inherit damaged DNA, which accounts for inherited cancers. Many times though, a person’s DNA becomes damaged by exposure to something in the environment, like smoking.

Cancer usually forms as a tumor. Some cancers, like leukemia, do not form tumors. Instead, these cancer cells involve the blood and blood-forming organs and circulate through other tissues where they grow.

Often, cancer cells travel to other parts of the body, where they begin to grow and replace normal tissue. This process is called metastasis. Regardless of where a cancer may spread, however, it is always named for the place it began. For instance, breast cancer that spreads to the liver is still called breast cancer, not liver cancer.

Not all tumors are cancerous. Benign (non-cancerous) tumors do not spread to other parts of the body (metastasize) and, with very rare exceptions, are not life threatening.

A study conducted in 1994 cited the anticancer activity of Morinda citrifolia against lung cancer. A team of scientists from the University of Hawaii used live laboratory mice to test the medicinal properties of the fruit against Lewis lung carcinomas, which were artificially transferred to lung tissue. The mice that were left untreated died in nine to twelve days. However, giving noni juice in consistent daily doses significantly prolonged their life span. Almost half of these mice lived for more than fifty days. Research conclusions state that the chemical constituents of the juice acted indirectly by enhancing the ability of the immune system to deal with invading malignancy by boosting macrophage or lymphocyte activity. Further evaluation theorizes that the unique chemical constituents of Morinda citrifolia initiate enhanced T-cell activity, a reaction that may explain noni’s ability to treat a variety of infectious diseases.

How does Noni fight Cancer?

NONI contains many anti-cancerous components:

1        Polysaccharide rich substance theory: Modern theory and research indicates that the noni plant possesses a polysaccharide-rich substance that comes from the fruit of noni. Polysaccharides block the attachment of contaminated cells to other cells thus preventing metastasis.         Anthraquinone: Anthraquinones are bitter plant compounds found in Noni. They have anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, anti-parasitic and anti-cancerous effects. Japanese scientists in 1993 from a very reputable laboratory in Kao University in Yokohama, Japan were looking for a substance to fight cancer. They searched through over 500 different extracts from tropical plants looking for something, which would inhibit the growth of RAS cancer cells. These are a particular type of fast growing and very malignant cancer cells that are hard to stop. Reporting in the journal Cancer Letters, the scientists stated that the Noni extract was by far the most effective at inhibiting and normalizing RAS transformed cancer cells. Its damnacanthol content was clinically described in 1993 as “a new inhibitor of RAS function.”

RAS is a normal part of the cell structure in every cell. It is a small protein, which, is part of the RNA of the cell and encodes for the reproduction of the cell. Only when activated by a carcinogenic protein within the cell, does it trigger the cells to reproduce wildly. If you can turn off this uncontrolled RAS activity, you stop the cancers growth. What the Japanese scientists found was that one of the phytochemicals in the Noni extract does exactly that! It is only on the basis of this kind of hard science that doctors can rely upon the ability of a plant extract to produce the return to good health now being seen clinically by people who have been struggling with cancer. No one knows if Noni will produce a return to good health for any specific person, but the research shows there is a scientific basis for believing that it is possible. The above represent only a sample of the research completed on the Morinda Citrifolia plant. The results are conclusive in each case in showing the validity of the traditional use of the Noni.

The journal Cancer Letter (1993, 161-6), reported that Keio University and The Institute of Biomedical Sciences in Japan claimed isolation of this new anthraquinone compound from Morinda citrifolia called damnacanthal. Important research on the medicinal uses of Noni was presented at the 83rd, 84th and the 85th annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.

A later study conducted at the University of Hawaii showed similar positive results regarding noni and its use as an anti-cancer agent. Researchers in Hawaii reported the mice clinically infected with Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) and left untreated, 13 died within nine to twelve days. However, mice infected with the same strain of LLC and then injected with an extract from Hawaiian Noni Juice lived significantly longer. Nearly 60% of the treated mice survived over fifty days, and four of those mice continued to live. On average, the Hawaiian Noni Juice extract prolonged life span of the infected mice by 119%. The scientists concluded that the Hawaiian Noni Juice extract acts as an inhibitor to the LLC infection.

3        Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG): EGCg is an antioxidant, which, is found in large quantities in Noni, raspberries, tea and grapes. It has been proven that EGCG brings the value of NOX (the active enzyme in cancerous cells) to normal.

4        Monoterpene: Noni fruit contains a large amount of Monoterpene. Generally Monoterpenes inhibit the cancer process in early and advanced stages. Interesting is the fact that using large quantities of monoterpenes have no side effects.

Studies suggest that could help at least 40% of cancer patients beat their disease. “Noni also seems to help prevent tumors from growing in the first place by tricking pre-cancerous cells into behaving normally again,” says Dr. Neil Solomon. The alkaloid and other chemical compounds found in noni have proven themselves to effective control or kill over six types of infectious bacterial strains including: Escherichia coli, salmonella typhi (and other types), shigella paradysenteriae, and staphylococcus aureus. How much Noni should I take, and when should I take it?

Recommendation for taking noni juice:
